- Families: System and Component (loadable) families are best thought of simply as a collection of like items sharing the same overall look and behaviour.
- System Families include anything that is built into the software and cannot by the user interface- model components such as doors and floors, but also views, project data, and levels.
- System families that also happen to be model elements are referred to as "host elements
- Component (loadable) families include everything that is not a system family - they can be host based or free standing
The future of architectural practice clearly depends on Integrated Project Delivery, It is clear from the readings from the AIA Report on Integrated Practice that this new method of practice has already begun and that with new technologies it is the way of the future. But what is Integrated Project Delivery?
"a new project delivery system that utilizes hihliy collaborative, cross functional teams composed of all project lifecycle stakeholders including the owner, architect, general contractor, engineers, supplier, and security." The team is assembled early in the project, and al have access to the information being produced. the introduction of BIM software and web connections between the teams is what allows this new process to be achieved. The end goal as said in one of the previous articles is to achieve better, faster, and cheaper architecture. From our Saturday workshop at ASG we learned that the reproduction of a three dimensional form or an architecture when an exact 3D model is available for dissection allows for less mistakes in the project, and a quicker delivery. In this manner, having the architecture in a 3D digital form for all teams of the Integrated Project Delivery system to view and add to, can make for a faster project with less mistakes.
"Eventually, the opportunity to participate in innovative projects [if you stay with the traditional practice] will decrease as Integrated Project Delivery and information modeling becomes the standard"
